Escape room adventure

I would like to share with you an interesting experience I recently had. Last month, I celebrated my birthday. Every year I go out with my family to a restaurant but this year we decided to add something different. We went to an "escape room".

I guess most of you have heard what it's all about, but I will explain for those who have not. The idea is that you enter to a place with many locks, and you have to find the numbers to open them. You do that by solving quizzes that are hidden in the room. Every room has a different story and different quizzes but they all have something in common: you must open all the locks and succeed in escaping the room within an hour.
The story of the room we chose goes like this: a robber stole a lot of money from the bank and hid it in this room. He went out for an hour exactly, so we had that time to find the money and take it with us before he come back.
We had to be very creative to understand what we had  to do. For example, there was a clock on the wall but the numbers were in Chinese, in a closet there was a screen and a drawing of a bicycle. We figured out that if we rode the real bicycle that was there, we would see an exercise on the screen, and when we solved it according to the numbers on the clock, we got the numbers needed for the first lock.   Every member of the family had ideas and together we managed to get out at the last minute. It was not so easy, and at one point we had to use the phone they’d given us to ask for a clue because we got stuck.
In conclusion, it was a very exciting and family bonding experience. You have to work against the time which makes it more fun.  It’s highly recommended. Remember, you can't go alone, the minimum number is two persons because you have to cooperate.
P.S. It isn't so cheap so don't forget to use your Teachers’ Union discount.

  1. Interesting. I would like to ask you some questions to understand the activity in detail. I saw the movie "The escape room..." I hope it has nothing to do with that movie. :)

  3. Hi Renana,
I think I would have preferred something less challenging although l’m sure other members of my family would have been thrilled. It sounds really nice to have to work as a team in order to solve the riddle. This is a skill we could all benefit from.
Thank you for your account and happy birthday!

  6. Escape Rooms are so much fun. Unfortunately, despite my love of mystery and suspense, I've only been to one. It involved some human interaction too. We were in a secret KGB vault - sort of an archive - and there was an attendant there (archivist?). We had to slip her a sleeping pill in order to steal her key, which helped us open the door to the next room. This was in Tel Aviv.
    Renana, where was your Room?

  7. It's good to read about your experience. I personally am a bit apprehensive about escape rooms. I would probably be too stressed to enjoy it.
